The storms damaged or destroyed more than 500 homes and impacted nearly every business in downtown Stoneville on the afternoon of March 20, 1998. The tornados injured 27 people and killed two.

The Yadkin River Bridge is one of the oldest bridges in the state and is in need of repairs.

Despite the poor economy, some local tax assessors said values will probably rise slightly.

As the mixed bag of weather fell Friday morning, several wrecks were reported around the area.

The Wilcox Bridge, over the Yadkin River was closed at 3pm Thursday. A special bridge inspection found exposed rebar, deteriorating concrete and deep cracks in the structure.

The first snow of the season amounts to more than two inches in some Triad communities.
