President Obama told congressional leaders Tuesday that he has the authority he needs to take on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, also known as ISIL), according to the White House.

Less than an hour before the government was slated to shut down, lawmakers and the White House struck a deal.

Tuesday, President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner dug their heels further into their respective positions.
